Washington Friends of Music Celebrates Successful Fundraiser Supporting Musicians

Over the last seven years, Washington Friends of Music has brought a series of Summer Festival concerts and the very popular New Year's Day Concert with The New Baroque Soloists to Washington. The members of this chamber ensemble are internationally accomplished artists, many with leading orchestras such as the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

As these events have grown in popularity, leading to sell-out concerts, the Board of Washington Friends of Music, a not-for-profit organization, launched a fundraiser to support the artists who performed over the last few years but have been idled by the Covid-19 pandemic. An ambitious goal of $20,000 was set.

On September 1st the campaign came to a close. The community not only met but exceeded the goal - clear evidence of the admiration music lovers and friends of WFM have developed for these performers. Washington Friends of Music picked up the fees associated with online giving so that 100% of the donations could be distributed to the musicians.

The contributions tell the story: an estimated very impressive 70% of those who attended the concerts over recent years donated to the WFM Musicians Fund, some very generously. There is no better demonstration of the appreciation and enthusiasm the community has for these musicians. It all bodes well for the resumption of the concerts in 2021.

THANK YOU!

Again - THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS on your brilliant fundraising!
I have been inundated by lovely emails from very grateful players. They would love to thank the audience as well as the Board.

As many players mentioned in their emails to me, this positive response is a wonderful indication of the high regard the Washington community has for us !!

All of you - MILLION THANKS again from the very grateful musicians 🎻🎻🎺🎻🎺🎹🎻🎹📯🎺📯🎻😀😃😉😍😎😙😚😐😶

Warm regards,
Doug

What an unbelievably lovely surprise! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this thoughtfulness and generosity.

These are very interesting times for a musician, but I feel lucky to still be rehearsing and playing live-stream concerts with my percussion quartet. We're focusing on audio/video recording projects now which is fun in its own way, but I certainly miss the feeling of live performances.

How are you and Waltraud doing, along with all the Washington Friends of Music? I miss playing concerts for all of you, hopefully, we can do that again in the not too distant future.

All the best and thank you again!

Wow! Thank you so much! This gesture is completely unexpected and incredibly generous! Are you all well and staying safe? I have been thinking about everyone, especially since we tragically lost Vinnie. The world is a crazy place, but I know that the community we have formed through music will also help heal us as we move forward.

I have missed you all this summer. My sincere hope is that we can be together at the New Year to ring in a brighter, better 2021.
My heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you, and best wishes for good health!

Thank you,
Lillian

I am touched by this news. I do not know of many who have not been affected by our current pandemic. This kind gesture speaks great volumes of your feelings towards musicians and what they have to offer. It has truly been a joy to perform for you each and every time and do hope that sometime in the near future it is possible to make music again in the way it was intended - together in person and in the presence of others.

All the best to you.
Terry

Vielen herzlichen Dank!
Alles gute, bleiben Sie gesund!
Roni
